Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K165 changing the book type format

I'm new to dual layer DVD burning and I'm having problems with readability. After much research I've come to the conclusion that the DVD burner (DVR-K165) in my laptop does not allow the book type to be changed to DVD-ROM. Does anyone know how I can change this/know of any upgrades etc that'll help me?

I use DVD shrink & nero. The DVD-ROM tick box on the burn options in DVD shrink is ticked but greyed out & nero does not even give me the option to change the book format as I've seen on countless forums while doing my research.

I've searched for firmware upgrades but without success.
There must be a way - please help!

A quick search on Google yields no results for Pioneer DVR-K165....

My mistake it should be an S not a 5. Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K16S is the correct code - Sorry!

You can try the following firmware at your own risk:

Be very careful and make sure you understand the implications to changing the firmware.
